Caring for Your Flute – A Comprehensive Guide

Flute  Nepal , we take pride in crafting flutes that resonate with the soul of music. Our flutes, inspired by the rich musical traditions of Nepal, are made from bamboo sourced from the serene and humid regions of the world. To ensure the longevity and tonal quality of your flute, follow these essential care tips:

1. Temperature Management:

  • Avoid Rapid Temperature Swings: Fluctuations in temperature can affect your flute. Allow the instrument to acclimate by keeping it inside its case until both your body temperature and the surrounding environment stabilize.
  • Addressing Cold Weather: In extremely cold climates, refrain from blowing warm air into the bansuri. Gently touch the flute between the blowing hole and the first hole (Ma). If it feels too warm, pause playing for a minute to allow it to return to normal temperature.

2. Protection from Dryness:

  • Threading: Our flutes are threaded extensively to enhance safety and preserve the original sound. Learn how to thread your flute here.
  • Oiling: In dry conditions, apply 3-4 drops of oil to a cotton cloth. Wrap the cloth around a stick and rub it gently inside the bansuri, ensuring there’s no dust. Avoidoiling in dusty areas.
  • 3. Outdoor Performances in Extreme Climates:
    • Pre-Performance: Follow temperature management tips mentioned earlier.
    • Post-Performance: Clean the moisture inside the flute caused by playing.

    4. Optional Flute Oiling:

    • Use sesame oil, olive oil, or mustard oil (4 to 5 drops) to prevent cracking and strengthen the bamboo. Apply oil carefully, avoiding side bindings and the exterior of the bansuri.

    5. Respect and Care:

    • Handle your flute with love, respect, and care. Your instrument thrives on the connection it shares with you. Maintain a symbiotic relationship, and your flute will reciprocate with beautiful melodies.

    How to Clean Fungus:

    • In humid or cold areas, or during periods of inactivity, fungus may develop.
    • Soft Cotton Cloth: Use a very soft cotton cloth to gently wipe away fungus. Repeat every 2-3 days.
    • Slight Dampness: If the fungus persists, slightly dampen the cloth (no dripping water) and try again.
    • Caution: Ensure the cloth is smooth to prevent damage to the bansuri during insertion and removal.
