Description
Dhimay is rather big compared to other drums played by the Newars and mostly the Jyapu community in Nepal. Dhimay is made of wood or metal and both head covers are made of goat-skin. It has a varied size diameter of 40 to 50 inches and a length of 17 to 21 inches. There are two types of Dhimay music instrument; one is smaller which are called “Dhaacha Dhimay” and one is bigger which are called “Ma Dhimay”. The Dhimay left side is played by hand and right side played by thin stick, made of cane which is normally curved at the end.
