- Over the years, the mridangam was made of different types of wood due to its increased durability, and today, its bomridangam is a musical instrument that falls under the drum and percussion instrument sub-category of musical instruments. The instrument is made of dry mango wood and weighs around 8 kg. The length is approximately 24 inches. The circumference of the smaller side Varies from 9.0 to 9.50 inches. The device is attached to a special buddy. Special handmade poor ones are used for better sound quality. Mridangam is a collision instrument of ancient origin. It is a primary rhythmic accompaniment in Carnatic music artists and in Dhrupad, where the same instrument is known as Pakwaj. One related instrument is Kendang, which is played in marine Southeast Asia.
