Sure, you need a quality mic, but you absolutely need a shockmount for it, otherwise, simple shuffling of feet can cause vibrations to travel up a mic stand and into the microphone, ruining an otherwise inspired vocal take. You need a shockmount. Likewise, you need a pop filter. Suppose you had that same inspired vocal take with a shockmount on the mic but all of your “b” and “p” consonants occur with a distracting burst of air. You need a pop filter. The sE shockmount has the pop filter integrated into the design (it can be removed if you prefer). And of course you need a quality cable to get your signal to your console or interface. The sE Electronics X1 S Vocal Pack comes with everything you need to deliver a professional quality vocal signal to your DAW. The X1 S Microphone The X1 S utilizes a hand-made condenser capsule, meticulously constructed and tuned in sE’s capsule room by technicians with decades of experience. This results in a capsule built like the world’s finest musical instruments – and a capsule truly up to the challenge of recording them. The -10 dB and -20 dB pad switches provide extended dynamic range, enabling a wide range of applications and close-mic techniques for even the loudest instruments…think super-heavy electric guitars, fortissimo brass instruments, and heavy-footed kick drums. Selectable at either 80Hz or 160Hz, these two filters help eliminate low-frequency rumble or footfall noise, as well as help compensate for excessive bass (proximity effect) with close-mic techniques. Unlike the cheaply constructed bodies of some other “entry-level” microphones, the X1 S’s all-metal chassis provides efficient rejection of any electrical interference and noise – and the high-quality finish ensures a great look for years to come.
